EHV - 1 VIRUS ALERT

MEPS (3/07) Support the re-opening of City Stables which is presently closed by the City of Oakland. We may lose yet another horse facility. Oakland voters purchased and approved funds to keep City Stables open to the public for generations and to provide access to it's youth in need. It is critical that the voters and taxpayers of Oakland retain this gem in the Oakland Hills adjoining Oakland's precious and extensive parks and trails! Stand up and make your voice heard.  Contact City of Oakland Council members about this issue and let MEPS know you contacted them (www.oaklandcitystables.org). Donate funds to MEPS (www.oaklandmeps.org) for Outreach Programs including lessons for inner city youth!

Trail News

Joaquin Miller Park

There is a committee appointed by Jean Quan that is working on the input/recommendations from two community meetings in 2006.  The meetings are held in the Joaquin Miller Community Center at 8:30 a.m. on the 2nd Monday of the month.  Open to the public.  There are representatives from the trail user groups, established facilities, and neighborhoods.  Judi Bank represents equestrians in the park.

The group has been working on the trails issues.  There is a new trail map of Joaquin Miller Park coming out May/June.  We are working on getting signs at the main trail heads and connections to EBRPD trails that say you are entering Joaquin Miller Park and City of Oakland rules apply (bikes ok on most narrow trails and dogs ON LEASH).  New sign posts for trail intersections are planned.  Structural changes at key trail intersection will give better sight-lines.  A new OFF LEASH dog run is planned for two of the parking lots at Woodminster Theater (when there are no planned events there).

MHA thanks TWHA for their hard work and combined efforts to put on the Bay Area Ridge Trail Ride and maintaining trails!  Thank you for your contribution to Sequoia Arena!
